Today, we would like to share some reflections from our participation in ACREX India 2024, a key event in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration in Sustainability, which took place in Delhi on February 15th and 16th. As South Asia’s largest exhibition of its kind, ACREX presented an invaluable opportunity for BEE, represented by the Assistant General Manager for BEE India Kapil Menghrani, to engage deeply with the industry’s forefront of sustainability.
The event is a great platform for interaction with industry leaders, original equipment manufacturers, and project managers. Contributing as a member of the organizing committee, Kapil facilitated dialogues with notable figures including ASHRAE President Ms. Ginger, EVP Mr. Jeff Littleton, and representatives from Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) India, REHVA, and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
A significant part of our involvement was during the launch of the Energy Conservation Sustainability Building Code and the Decarbonization Book by ISHRAE. These discussions provided a platform for sharing our perspective on the latest trends in sustainability and green building technologies.
Key Highlights on the Indian HVAC Sector
At ACREX 2024, we had a chance to discuss the significant growth of the global HVAC industry, which has been increasing by 7.2% annually up to 2021, thanks to more construction projects. India is set to beat this trend, expecting its HVAC market to reach $5.9 billion by 2024, growing at a rate of 7% each year. This growth is mainly because of more high-rise buildings, shopping centers, and the rise of big markets in smaller cities. These places need HVAC systems to stay cool and comfortable. India’s push for smart cities is also helping the HVAC market grow.
There’s a big move towards using less energy in HVAC systems, which is good for both the planet and our bills. The Indian government is investing heavily in infrastructure, with plans to spend $1.45 trillion over the next five years. This will likely bring even more growth and innovation to the HVAC sector.
ACREX 2024 highlighted how new technologies and government rules can help make the HVAC industry more sustainable. With this kind of support and investment, HVAC is becoming a key player in making India’s buildings more eco-friendly.
The exhibition highlighted the urgency and necessity of adopting sustainable construction practices in India, emphasizing the critical role of technological innovation and regulatory frameworks in steering the industry towards sustainability. With the projection of an increasing share of air-conditioned residential space and the ambitious goal to significantly reduce the CO2 intensity of electricity generation for the building sector by 2050, the stakes for sustainable development have never been higher.
